Judy Pryor-Ramirez

Scholarly and Community Advisor

Judy is the Director of Civic Engagement and Social Justice at Eugene Lang College, The New School for Liberal Arts where she oversees a range of programs for students, faculty, and community partners. She is a also a part-time faculty member in Sociology and Director of the Ethnicity and Race Minor at The New School. In addition to her work at The New School, she has been an educator for Sadie Nash Leadership Project 's Summer Institute and the Institute for Puerto Rican/Hispanic Elderly 's ESL program for adult learners. Judy strongly believes in the power of education as a liberatory practice as discussed in bell hooks’ text,Teaching to Transgress. She is interested in the intersections of race/ethnicity, gender, class, and systems of power and domination as it relates to youth, women, immigrant and low-income communities as well as the ways in which critical, feminist and engaged pedagogies can be transformative forces in the lives of individuals and communities. Judy earned her M.A. in Sociology and Education from Teachers College Columbia University and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication from George Mason University.
