"We Are Not Travyon Martin" Tumblr Examines White Privilege

After the painful news of George Zimmerman's acquittal on charges of second degree murder and manslaughter for the killing of Trayvon Martin, protests erupted across the country this weekend, both in major cities like New York, Oakland, Detroit and Atlanta, as well as online on blogs and social media outlets. People took to the streets in their hoodies, chanting "We Are All Travyon Martin!"

In New York City, thousands of protesters took over Times Square and hosted a sit in and people's mic on blackness, racial injustice and safety in the US.

Amidst the fervor of millions of upset Americans adopting a solidarity stance by wearing hoodies and claiming "I am Travyon Martin," a new Tumblr takes a critical, corrective approach. The "We Are Not Travyon Martin" Tumblr is collecting stories of white privilege, in an attempt to expose the protections and securities that whiteness garners.

An excerpt from the new Tumblr:

"I am not Travyon Martin. But I am a mother. And my son will be seventeen sooner than later. And he will buck authority and have a loud mouth and have plenty of opinions on plenty of things he’ll have yet to experience. He’ll punch and he’ll be punched. Will his white skin save him from prosecution and execution?"
